VOLT is an Industrial Research and Experimental Development Project promoted by Gresmalt Group, Sacmi and Zschimmer & Schwarz Ceramco in collaboration with the University of Pavia and the University of Brescia.
The Project is co-funded by the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy (MIMIT), started its activities on January 8, 2024 with an expected duration of 36 months.
Gresmalt, Sacmi e Zschimmer & Schwarz Ceramco are key players in the value chain of the ceramic industry. Gresmalt represents the tile manufacturing industry, while Sacmi and Zschimmer & Schwarz Ceramco represent the mechatronics and chemical industries, respectively. The latter two companies provide technological and decorative solutions, contributing significantly to innovation and quality in the ceramic industry.
The Italian ceramic industry, characterized by high resource consumption and a complex supply network, shows fragility in ensuring continuity of operations. To address these critical issues and mitigate supply chain risks, the three companies together with the universities aim to design and validate in real environment an integrated system of solutions, called Circular and Intelligent Supply Chain (C&ISC). To this end, Digital Twin technology will be used to create a simulation environment useful both for real-time monitoring of the technological, environmental and socio-economic performance of the ceramic supply chain and for predicting the system's response to external pressures.
